10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not fun for many of us. But it is important. As the winter near an end and we start looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve collected throughout the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a home?
The outside of your house could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your house in Clearwater, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save a lot of money in years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time to clean your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest in spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.
Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build their homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t give you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows are a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not stain your house, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem strange because you will be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio probably gets the most use in the summer, so it can be easy to overlook it in the winter since you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in rough condition the first time you step onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you may need to think about a more serious option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical home roof problems in Clearwater. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.
The best process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and leave it be. This will kill all organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is going to be what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will improve your day, and will probably inspire you to spend a lot more time outside.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will probably be spending much more time outside, so spring is a wonderful time to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an exact place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the outside of your house so much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a major impact on the overall look of your house.
Remove weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you’ll be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
